Wine Making Supplies

If a great tasting wine is something you love then enjoying wine that you've made yourself will taste even better!  Wine making is a fun and enjoyable hobby that is becoming ever more popular.  Homemade wine is also very inexpensive.  Homemade wine (and very good tasting wine at that) can cost as little as $2 - $5 per bottle.  The high quality wine making supplies available today make your inexpensive homemade wines comparable to wine bottles that will cost you $20 - $40+ in a wine or liquor shop. Wine ingredient kits are an easy way to get all the wine supplies you need at once to make a great batch of wine. Here's me showing all the components of a wine ingredient kit I bought...

There will be a variety of supplies that you will need if you want to do a proper job of making wine. But first you must decide if you want to simply buy a kit or buy all of the pieces separately. Either way it has its advantages and disadvantages so you must understand what’s best for you. Take into consideration your level before deciding which route you choose.

A kit that offers all of the essential wine making supplies is a good way to go for the novice wine maker. This simplifies the whole process and is a great way to get started. Whenever you try something for the first time, there is always a trial and error process. This will help to acclimate yourself to the specific equipment that is needed. Kits do have their limitations though, for instance the grapes that come with the kit. They may not be the correct grapes for the type of wine you want to make. If you are at a higher level of understanding in the wine making process, you understand this and may opt to buy all of your wine making supplies separately.

If you choose to buy your wine making supplies separately, then you will start by buying the proper ingredients.  Grapes, which are then crushed for their juice, are the main ingredient used when making wine. You can also make wines from other fruits which are known as fruit wines. Apples are an example and that would be known as apple wine.

A carboy is your fermenter and is another crucial piece of equipment that you will need. This will allow the yeast to grow. You will also need a hydrometer which helps to measure the specific gravity of liquids. This will help maintain proper sugar levels in your wine. Don’t forget to use a thermometer because you want to be able to maintain an ideal temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius during the fermentation process. If the temperature climbs too high, it may kill the yeast.

Other important wine making supplies include but aren’t limited to corks, sealers, and rubber stoppers. Of course you will need more supplies to complete the process. These are just a few of the key items you will need to become familiar with if you are going to try and become a successful winemaker. There is a wide range of sizes for all of the aforementioned wine making supplies. What sizes you choose all depends on the amount of wine you plan on producing. Are you going to produce five or six gallons of wine or do you plan on competing with a large winery from Napa Valley?

When you are finished making your wine, you will need bottles, corks and wine labels. These are wine making supplies that complete the wine making experience. You can be very creative when it comes to this process, especially with the labels. So whenever you have guests over and sit down to enjoy a glass of wine, they won’t be able to tell the difference between your wine or a bottle of wine bought from the store.
